God is the Strength of my Heart (by Eugene Greco)

Psalm 73:25-26
"Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
   and my portion forever."

I wrote recently that this psalm reminded me of the song "Nobody" by Wonder Girls. I found out later that Eugene Greco wrote "God is the Strength of My Heart" based on the above psalm! Amazing! New discovery every morning.

Check out the song sung by Don Moen on YouTube and lyrics below.

God is the Strength of my Heart (lyrics)

Whom have I in heaven but You
There is nothing on earth I desire beside You
My heart and my strength many times they fail
But there is one truth that always will prevail

Chorus
God is the strength of my heart
God is the strength of my heart
God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever, forever

Understanding the Prophecy of Isaiah – Part 1

I’ve been praying to God to strengthen my body so that I can attend bible class. Last week, I had a prompting to contact Leong Tien Fook and ask him if he has started any classes in any churches and he replied that he has - just last week at First Baptist Church in Subang Jaya! Praise the Lord! I was jumping up and down and really excited because last week was just an introduction and last night, we started studying the book of Isaiah! There are 5 more lessons to go and it is every Wednesday night from 8pm to 10pm.

I decided not to sign up for Isaiah class under BSF because I felt God could use me better if I went for Elpizo instead to encourage others rather than to get stuck in a regimented bible class for a full year. So, I am so delighted that I have another opportunity to study the book of Isaiah.

The study is entitled “Understanding the Prophecy of Isaiah”.

Interestingly, Isaiah 7 is my rhema from God that the cancer will not rise up against me. It will be too shattered. It is interesting to study historically what actually happened in the 8th century BC to Syria and Israel after Isaiah’s prophecies.

There are so many names of regions in chapter 7, it threw me off initially. I found a website that helped me visualize where Aram, Damascus and Syria were located:

http://www.bible-history.com/geography/maps/map_ancient_aram_damascus.html

Things to know:
Syria in Hebrew is Aram. It’s main city is Damascus.
Ephraim is in Samaria.
Samaria is the capital of Israel (Northern Kingdom)
Jerusalem is in Judah (Southern Kingdom)

Setting: Assyria, a very powerful empire then

In 735 BC, God spoke to Isaiah when Ahaz was king of Judah. King Rezin of Aram (Syria) and King Pekah of Israel fought Jerusalem but could not overpower it (verse 1). It was the chastisement of God upon King Ahaz that the Lord began to send the 2 kings against Judah (2 Kings 15:37). Ahaz had not done what was right in the Lord's sight and even sacrificed his son in the fire (2 Kings 16:1-5). Due to the alliance of the 2 kings, Ahaz and the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken (verse 2). Isaiah prophesied that the 2 kings would attack Judah but they would not be successful if Ahaz stood firm in his faith in God and even encouraged Ahaz to ask for a sign but Ahaz refused. Ahaz asked for help from the King of Assyria and even took some things from the temple of the Lord and from the royal palace and presented it to King assyria but that did not help him (2 Chronicles 28:16-21). Because Ahaz refused to trust God, Isaiah (in Chapter 7) gave 2 of the following prophecies to the house of David:

1) Isaiah 8:3-4
Then I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the LORD said to me, "Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz. Before the boy knows how to say 'My father' or 'My mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria."

It takes about 2 to 3 years for a little child to say “my father” or “my mother”. In fulfillment of the scripture, Assyria took Syria (Damascus) captive in 732 BC, 3 years after God spoke to Isaiah.

2) Isaiah 7:14-17
14Therefore the Lord himself will give youc a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.15He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right. 16But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste. 17The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.”

To the Jews, children before 13 years old begin moral accountability and start going to Hebrew school. In fulfillment of the prophecy, Assyria captured Samaria (Ephraim) within 13 years from the time God spoke to Isaiah regarding this prophecy.

In 722, BC Assyria defeated Samaria (capital city of Israel).

In the past, God spoke to the people of Israel through the prophets. Isaiah was one of them and many of his prophecies, we can observe today have been fulfilled. Isaiah’s prophecies in chapter 7, covered both a short term fulfillment (during his time) and a long term fulfillment where Jesus was the child born of a virgin. He prophesied it 700 years before Jesus was born. In the above prophecy, Isaiah saw the virgin (in Hebrew just means unmarried maiden and during that time unmarried maidens can be assumed as virgin) pregnant. This was fulfilled in Luke 1:31 when an angel appeared to Mary and said

“31You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.””

That Mary was pregnant, was a visible miracle for all to see.

In Isaiah 9:6-7, he had a vision of the child born and is called Mighty God and Everlasting Father.

“6For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor,b Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.”

That Jesus was born in the manger in Bethlehem (also foretold) and angels appeared to the shepherd and later the magis followed the star and visited Jesus was a visible miracle for all to see.

And in Isaiah 11:1-2, Isaiah saw Jesus anointed with the holy spirit.
“1A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of power,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD—
3and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.”

This was fulfilled when Jesus was baptized and John saw the spirit of God descend like a dove and lighting on Jesus (Matthew 3:16). This too was a visible miracle to John and maybe to all present at the baptism too.

We can believe that God truly spoke to Isaiah because we have seen these prophecies miraculously fulfilled today. We can also then be convicted that the same will be true of God’s other promises spoken through many prophets and who Jesus himself claims to be, the son of God. This shows that our faith is not just blind faith but faith that rests on historical facts and we can trust God.

Update - Be Still and Know That I am God

I think because I have been coughing for so long, the chest area now feels sore. I pray for any inflammation to go away and I pray for God to ease my nerves, veins and muscles in the chest area. As I prayed this morning, I suddenly thought of lathering some oil on my chest, so I did and then kept it warm. I pray that God will grant me His favour and comfort me once again.

I believe I am healed by the blood of Jesus and this is another phase of battle of the mind and against the powers of darkness that I have to face. I bind the spirit of affliction that causes me to cough to discourage me. I found this verse in the bible that comforted me so.

1 Peter 1:8
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

So, I am looking at Jesus and asking Him to fill me with inexpressible and glorious joy so that I do not worry about the cough so much. The following verses have also brought me much comfort:

Isaiah 41:10

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. …"

“For I am your God” makes more sense to me now that I have experienced Him personally and just hearing this verse comforts me because my God is mighty in power and loving. While Jesus was in the boat with Peter facing a storm (like how I am in a storm now) Jesus got up from sleep, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" (Mark 4:39). Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Jesus was unfazed by the storm just as I believe He is also unfazed by this little storm I am facing because He has already granted me victory through all the sings, word and His promises given to me. As he said to the disciples “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”. This is very humbling indeed because I know He loves me so and He is always there to catch me when I fall even in this battle of the mind I am facing now with the cough.

In Psalm 46:10, God says "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Yes, in His timing, He will issue that one command to the cough to go away. In the meantime, I stay close to Jesus knowing He will bring me out of the storm.

I am not my own

1 Corinthians 6:19,20
"...... You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

Derek Prince in his book "Entering the presence of God" said few Christians realize that God wants our entire bodies just like how the bodies of the animals that were slain were placed entirely upon the altar. The only exception as compared to the tabernacle days is that He wants us not dead but alive.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 clearly tells me I am not my own. Imagine, I am not our own..... but I live life the way I think fit, according to my own rushed wisdom or what I desire. This was one part of my life I know now that I was not following Jesus. I really thought it was alright to sweep some words of God under the carpet. It is no wonder I landed into so much trouble. I am sorry Lord.

May the following devotion from www.seedofthekingdom.com bless you today. :)

Partial Obedience is Disobedience!

“So God said to Noah . . . make yourself an ark . . .  this is how you are to build it. The ark is to be  450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high . ..”
from Genesis 6:13-15, NIV

God not only asked Noah to build a boat, but gave him very precise instructions about the size of the vessel and how the ark was to be built. It was to be a vessel with a very specific purpose which would be large enough to take on board the biggest floating menageries the world has ever seen – either before or since!

Now, when Noah heard God speaking to him he could easily have said “Yes, Lord, I’ll build a boat – but I think you must have got the design a bit wrong, I think it would be best if I made a few alterations to the plans!” So Noah  might have set to work to build a vessel and done it, in Frank Sinatra style, ‘My Way!’ And when the boat was finished it turned out to be a magnificent pleasure yacht for him and his family! Noah would have been totally obedient to God by building a boat, but completely disobedient to God by building the boat to his own design instead of God’s.

When the flood came, and God told him to gather on board the vessel two of every animal under the sun, Noah’s pleasure craft would have proved woefully inadequate for the task. His partial obedience would have destroyed God’s plan. It would have been no good Noah protesting to God that at least he built a boat – it would have been sinful disobedience.

When you read the stories of the Kings of Judah and Israel you find many short comments about their lives. One of which says that “Amaziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not wholeheartedly” (2 Chronicles 25:2) Eventually Amaziah turned away from the Lord and finally he lost his life in tragic circumstances! For him partial obedience was an unmitigated disaster.

It’s vital that when God speaks to us and shows us from His Word the way to live, and what He wants us to be and to do, that we don’t compromise with partial obedience. Each of our lives is like a vessel that, like Noah, we are building day by day. We have a destiny to fulfil, but partial obedience will always mean that we’re never quite fit for th4e Master’s use.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for these powerful lessons from Scripture. I’m sorry, Lord, for times in my life when I have been less than wholehearted in following you and have, as a result, only been partially obedient. Forgive me Lord for this disobedience and help me to start again, with your help, and build the right vessel for the purposes you have for me in the future. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Ethan and mum in law not too well

Do pray for Ethan and my mother in law. Ethan has been having bouts of vomitting since Monday night and my mother in law was not feeling well right after her China trip. She has overcome the tiredness bit but is currently down with conjunctivitis. She is currently looking after Ethan- so both down together-gether.

Praise God that Ethan overcame his ulcers from Monday night. He was slightly feverish, with ulcers and refused to take his medicine. So, I prayed while he slept and praise God, shortly after that, his fever broke as his t shirt was wet and we had to change him out of it. The next night, we shone a torchlight to his throat and ulcers were gone! Praise the Lord!

Please pray for them both, for Ethan's stomach woes to go away and my mother in law's eyes to heal. Thanks so much in advance.

Update - Endorphins released

One more good news! Of late, I have been sweating quite a bit especially after hot meals. Henry read from the naltrexone forum that the endorphins released as a result of taking the low dose naltrexone causes sweating. So, the drug is working as the endorphins are being released! Praise the Lord! Thank you Jesus! :)

Nobody by Wonder Girls

Nobody by Wonder Girls

This popular song by Wonder Girls I realise, comes with dance moves that many people can follow. Ethan's school concert last year taught the five year olds similar dance steps and even Ethan who was observing the practices picked up some of the steps.

It goes:
"I want nobody nobody But You, I want nobody nobody But You
........
I want nobody nobody nobody nobody"

Last night, I stumbled upon Psalm 73:25-26 and tears were just streaming down as I read it over and over again. It is so wonderful to worship our God and have this love relationship with Him. It seems not too long that I was spiritually dry and longing to fellowship with God again but now even Psalm 73:26-26 makes me cry and yes, I thought of how similar the psalm was to the Wonder Girl chorus bit. :) Through Him, I receive all my blessings in life, my family and friends and good health. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 73:25-26

"25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever."

"My flesh and my heart may fail," refers to the cough that never seems to go away. I know it is deceit from the devil, discouragement given to me by the evil one to prevent me from seeing the victory that I have in Jesus. I know it is a deceit because my energy level is up and I am putting on a bit of weight. So I cry out to God for He is my strength who helps through this moment. I bind and break every spirit of affliction and discouragement and every work of darkness that comes against me and I cast them into the deepest part of the sea in Jesus' name. May God fill me heart with His love, joy and peace. Amen!
