"Spirit to Spirit" not "Mind to Spirit"

My dad says I am gifted to see letters in the sky, sight rainbows and just the other day I spotted a kingfisher (electric blue!) fly past my front windshield. My dad and I spent some time together and for the first time, I shared the gospel with him. Praise God! I don’t think I am gifted. I think anyone who loves nature will catch sight of these wonders what more if you are a child of God and loves its Creator. My uncle Seng LOVES nature. Uncle Seng can spend hours in the wilderness, trekking, enjoying a good book or just napping and not get bored.

Uncle Seng shared with me once that he believes there is definitely a supernatural force. The only difference between my uncle and I is that I get to talk to God as well. If only he can experience a close relationship with this “supernatural force” Because that ‘supernatural force” is a personal God who is our Lord, our God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. Can you imagine Uncle Seng a child of God basking in His love amongst nature? I can! I am confident that Uncle Seng will receive Jesus as his Lord and savior one day soon. I can imagine his experience amongst nature more heightened and he is talking to God as well!

Anyway, on Wednesday 27 January 2010, while sitting on my throne is the bathroom, I saw my church friend’s Peter’s face on the wall. The tiles have cloudy design and like the clouds if you let your imagination run wild, you can actually see things. But what stood out was Peter’s face and an impression in my heart to ask him “Are you alright?”. “Neh, better not call him if not he’ll think I am crazy”, I thought to myself. Around lunch time, Peter called me and I was so excited! “Hey, I was thinking of you because I saw your face on the wall! So since you called, I have to ask you “Are you alright?””I asked Peter. Then my heart just dropped when he said “Well, not really, it’s my dad”. His dad has been diagnosed with 3b/4th stage lung cancer. Yesterday morning, I heard from Henry that another church member Nancy has a relapse of cancer which has spread to the spine. I was feeling very sad and yet I know God heals because it is His will is to heal until rhema comes along. I started to worship Him and praising Him and cast all my anxieties and cares of these families into His hand.

Yesterday morning I heard Jeremiah Chapters 8 and 9 thanks to Dennis who helped me to get audio cds for the whole bible. You can get it from Salvation under Zondervan. Since my rhema from God was in Jeremiah 1 to go tell everyone, I can’t help feeling that God wants me to share Jeremiah 8 and 9 with you. I actually cried.

Jeremiah 9:1 Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night fir the slain of my people”

Ps Joseph says there’s just too many diagnosed with cancer in one church. It is not right.

Jeremiah 8:23 “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?”

Jeremiah 9:21”Death has climbed in through our windows..”

I just pray that you will read it on your own quiet time and come before God. Another verse that struck me was as follows:

Jeremiah 8:6 I have listened attentively, But they do not say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying “What have I done” Each pursues his own course like a horse charging into battle.

Please understand that it is not God that gives us sickness but because we have strayed away from him, we have given ourselves over to something else (Baals in Jer 9:14)and that is the something else that we each need to ask ourselves “What have I done?”. Also because we have poor desire to read his word or prayer the holy spirit within us is a mere spectator and our minds are not even being renewed by His word.

Jeremiah 9:13 The Lord said “It is because they have forsaken my law, which I have set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law”

We have a new covenant now through Christ Jesus.

The old covenant is dead. It is when we believe what Jesus has done for us, why he did it that that is called faith that we become doers of His word (James 1:22) out of that love that compels us so that we bear fruit. It is not dead works. So, if we can’t understand grace or let His word remind us again and again until it sinks into our spirit, our works are dead works.

James 2:21 -22 “Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what He did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together.”

So then, if God’s word says in 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you” why do we pray only in hope and after we pray we still continue to worry. God said “Do not worry”. That is disobedience to God! See how this is only one small aspect of our lives and then we rationalize away to say it is human to worry but it precisely we are to die to ourselves and follow Christ and He says He cares for us. So either we are in agreement with the bible and obey or we don’t agree with the bible and allow the devil help us rationalize and ultimately we end up disobeying God.

We might already have knowledge of His word but it is not fed to our spirit because it is our spirit that communes with God – “spirit to spirit” not “mind to spirit”.

We are slowly perishing without God. For example, I would rather watch my favourite TV programme then to read the bible. When I do read it, I feel sleepy and go to sleep. But when disaster struck me, I was seeking him so desperately that I did not even feel like watching TV. Jeremiah 8:19 “…why have they provoked me to anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols” See where the priority is? I know it is difficult if you are already spiritually dry as I was but keep pressing on until you get a breakthrough.

Let God’s word sink into your spirit. Only two months ago, our dear Dennis from my home group was so discouraged by what was happening in church, he left it but once he managed to overcome his discouragement (which is the devil really) through prayer and sharing of testimonies, he is now on the roll and just last 2 to 3 days ago he shared that he just longs to read the bible!

Once we understand what grace means, we have to extend our influence by testifying what God has done for us so that we can help others “catch the fire”. I believe then our church will be on fire again! But until then, there is much seeking God to be done. Oh do hurry up friends and save our other friends in our church. It’s because we are so inward looking that we don’t even think that our testimonies make any difference. But it does! It helps us remember again who we are in Christ and how powerful He is in our lives! Then we can trust God even more and be doers of God's word naturally and not by our strength and after that, we can "Just go with the flow" like King Wai says.

  1. Thanks Liz for sharing about my dad. We all pray too that one day he will discover and receive Jesus as his Saviour. It would be a very exciting time for us.
