Guard Your Soul

Now that I understand that the soul consists of the will, the mind and the emotion, and that we have to face the reality of the existence of the spiritual realm and how the devil is powerless except to throw lies at us affecting our soul, all I can say is - "Guard your soul!" (Read my blog "Spirit, Soul and Body" for further explanation on spirit and soul)

I have often heard of the saying “the flesh fighting with the spirit”. Even Paul in Romans 7 : 14 - 20, said:

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it."

Wow, what a struggle! Now that I know what “soul” means, it is easier to see where the devil attacks – our mind, our will and our emotions!

Now that we are dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus, we have God’s nature and God’s life in us. Praise the Lord! That is the spirit that is in us. But the flesh is our soul that can still be deceived by the devil and that’s why we still struggle. But once in Christ, we make lousy sinners. How great is this understanding. That’s why the spirit and flesh fight all the time. It is true!
We only need to soak ourselves in God’s words to arm ourselves with the spirit of the sword (God’s words) to thrust against the enemy when we are attacked. Last night, I was reminded again in Romans 8:15 -

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

I have found another verse to thrust against the enemy over and above 2 Timothy 1:7 which says that fear is not from God. How wonderful. Thank you Lord for your revelation to me. I have the spirit of sonship in me. I do not have a spirit in me that makes me a slave again to fear! Praise the Lord! I shout from the mountain top! I am freeeee!

I was sharing with cousin Tammy yesterday night and this morning about how God, when he performs His miracle, we stay healed. But the reality is that there are people who get it hit again from cancer, asthma etc. What we both learned is that we are only humans. Our spirit is constantly fighting with our flesh (our soul) and when we are busy doing things our way, be it our family or work or friends, we lose focus on Jesus and allow the devil room to attack us once again. But God is good. He will prompt us and nudge us to Him again. We need only begin our journey again, repenting and throwing our cares to Him and He will take us in His arms again and pull us out from the slimy pit.

Psalm 40: 1,2

"I waited patiently for the LORD;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand."

Thank you Lord for your faithfulness. Thank you Lord for everything.
