Thanks Uncle Alan for reading out God’s words to me. I don’t know what happened the night of 13 August 2009 but everything fell into place that night. That night, I felt God’s assurance that He heals, God’s amazing love for me, heard God’s instructions to stand firm in light of doubts thrown at me, heard God telling me to let go my life to Him, and found my confidence to speak in tongues. The culmination of all these areas grounded in God’s words was what made it all so powerful. An unshakeable truth!
I want to share with all of you God’s words from the bible for those who face the same circumstances as mine. They are mostly from Uncle Alan’s sharing with me. I’ve added in verses that spoke to me during the journey.
God is powerful and does not lie. He lifts my spirit and brings healing. And knowing God is sovereign and that I can rely on His promises is comforting and assuring. I am humbled and in awe.
Do not be afraid
At the hospital bed, I was scrambling for the bible because I knew somewhere in there He told me not to be afraid. I dived into Psalms because I thought that was the best place to begin. When I went down on my knees and asked for God’s peace upon me, he started sending angels to help me. I asked God, please give me a verse and “ping”, a sms came in immediately (not exaggerated) from Steven Toh. Later in the afternoon, I received a few more verses from Marvin through Henry. Thank you my friends. You don’t know how God used you to help me that day. So, I would like to share with you God’s comforting words upon me that first few nights at the hospital.
Psalm 57:1
1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me,
for in you my soul takes refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.
Psalm 91:4-7
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
Isaiah 41:10
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
He is your Helper
This psalm became very real to me in the second or third week. It was when we were ploughing through so much information on nutrition and talking to oncologists and friends on chemotherapy. It is easy to be overwhelmed by them all. But God said HE is my Helper, NO ONE ELSE – not chemo, not nutrition. That moment I knew He was in control and I just let go. I let Henry do all the research on chemotherapy and later God even prompted him to fast and pray! In your case, I believe without a doubt that He too will watch over you and keep you from harm.
Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
